Rankings joy for England
England are guaranteed to begin their international summer as the leading Test side in the world following their victory over Sri Lanka at Colombo.
In securing a 1-1 draw on the sub-continent, Andrew Strauss’ side remained ahead of South Africa in the International Cricket Council Test rankings.
Their second-Test victory also ensures Australia cannot overhaul England, even if they manage a 3-0 whitewash of West Indies in the Caribbean.
England ascended to the top of the Test rankings following their 4-0 triumph over India last summer, but that position came under threat following a 3-0 reverse at the hands of Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, have gained a point in the latest rankings, but remain in sixth position.
