Cook and Swann soar
Graeme Swann and Alastair Cook have made significant strides up the International Cricket Council rankings after England ended their two-Test tour of Sri Lanka with an eight-wicket victory.
The win came as a much-needed boost, with England having suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Pakistan before losing the first Test against Sri Lanka.
Swann’s 10-wicket haul as well as innings of 94 and 42 not out from Cook helped guide the tourists to a success that ensured they remained the world’s number-one ranked Test side.
Vice-captain Cook rose eight places to sixth in the batting rankings, while Kevin Pietersen, who hit a majestic 151 and 42 not out in Colombo, moved up three places to joint 18th.
Swann’s performance lifted him to fourth in the bowling rankings, one behind England team-mate James Anderson, who remains third.
