England’s stunning Ashes success over Australia was the most searched for sporting event of 2005, according to a leading internet provider.
MSN Search, used by 6.2million people in the UK, logged more searches for the summer heroics of Andrew Flintoff and his team-mates than any other sporting event.
Wimbledon and the FA Cup came in second and third respectively, with Liverpool’s remarkable Champions League win 10th on the list.
England football captain David Beckham was the most searched-for sports personality, ahead of Maria Sharapova and Ellen MacArthur.
The findings are to be used for a Channel 4 documentary, the 100 Hottest Web Searches 2005, in the new year.
