Flintoff is ranked top all-rounder
Lancashire star Andrew Flintoff is the top ranked all-rounder in both forms of the game on the international stage
England Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff is now the top-ranked all-rounder in both forms of the game following his exploits against Australia over the summer.
Not only did Flintoff claim the Man of the Series Award after England’s 2-1 Ashes Series victory against the Aussies, he was also the stand-out performer for the ICC World XI during the one-sided Super Series whitewash against Ricky Ponting’s men.
In the all-rounder category, Flintoff climbed above South African star Jacques Kallis, with Shaun Pollock, Sanath Jayasuriya and Daniel Vettori making up the top five.
The big Lancastrian has also reached fourth in the ICC Test Bowling rankings, climbing two places for his highest ever points total.
All four of England’s pace attack are in the top 20. Yorkshire seamer Matthew Hoggard is ninth, Durham fast bowler Stephen Harmison 14th and Glamorgan quick Simon Jones comes in at 18th.
Australian bowlers Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, now with 1150 Test wickets between them, occupy the top two slots.
Both players move up a notch from their previous ranking with McGrath taking over top position. McGrath and Warne leapfrog Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who slips to third.
In the Test Batting table England are represented by left-handed openers Marcus Trescothick (eighth) and Andrew Strauss (10th).
Aussie skipper Ponting moves up three places to joint second, level with Brian Lara and just behind Kallis.
