South Africa emerged victorious at the 2012 Hong Kong Sixes as England failed to reach the final of the plate competition.

Josh Cobb’s side suffered a 14-run defeat to the Netherlands in their semi-final at Kowloon Cricket Club, having finished third in Group A.

Although Cobb and Tom Smith compiled unbeaten scores of 33 and 28 respectively, each from 13 deliveries, England finished on 86 for one in pursuit of 101.

The Netherlands’ imposing total of 100 for two was underpinned by Alexei Kervezee and Mudhassar Bukhari, who used up a mere 17 balls between them in smashing 31 apiece. The latter helped himself to four sixes.

South Africa eased through to the final with three straight wins and then had few problems in overcoming last year's champions Pakistan.

Each of the top four passed 30 as the Proteas racked up a stunning 142 for two; Umar Akmal and Yasir Shah were taken for 39 in their solitary overs.

Umar and brother Kamran struck 37 and 51 in reply, but Pakistan were dismissed for 105, with Colin Ingram picking up three scalps.
