Australia’s Mike Hussey has returned to the top of the ICC player rankings for Test batsmen after scoring a total of 177 runs in the first Test against India.
The 33-year-old was third before the Bangalore clash but a knock of 146 in the first innings gave him the number one spot.
ICC Cricketer of the Year Shivnarine Chanderpaul, of West Indies, is second while Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara is third.
Ricky Ponting remains fourth despite scoring his maiden Test century in India last week, and Mohammad Yousuf completes the top five.
England captain Kevin Pietersen moves up one place to seventh by virtue of Matthew Hayden only scoring 13 runs in Bangalore. Alastair Cook remains 16th.
In the Test bowling rankings Ryan Sidebottom is still sixth, Monty Panesar 10th, Andrew Flintoff 16th and Matthew Hoggard 19th. Flintoff remains third in the all-rounder rankings.
