Edgbaston welcomes Champions Trophy

Today saw the regional launch of the Champions Trophy at Edgbaston, one of three venues for June’s tournament along with the Cardiff Wales Stadium and The Oval.

Edgbaston will host five games, including the final on June 23, which are expected to contribute £12.6million to the Birmingham's economy.

England limited-overs all-rounder Chris Woakes attended the launch, 10 days before tickets go on sale on November 5 for which fans can already register interest on the International Cricket Council's website.

Chief executive of Edgbaston Colin Povey said: "The 2013 ICC Champions Trophy will be the first time that a final of a major ICC tournament has been staged outside of London when ECB have won the rights to stage such an event, which is a great honour for Edgbaston and fantastic for the city of Birmingham.

"The £32million invested in the redevelopment of Edgbaston was intended to ensure that we can stage these marquee international cricket matches. We are delighted that next year's ICC Champions Trophy gives us a chance to showcase both the city and the stadium.

"Everyone at Edgbaston is very excited about the 2013 summer and we all look forward to welcoming fans from around the world to this great event."

Tournament director Steve Elworthy said: "We cannot wait for the start of the ICC Champions Trophy in June 2013, and are delighted to announce ticket details for the tournament. In a summer packed full of cricket, we've ensured that fans across England and Wales can enjoy world-class cricket at exceptional value. A family of four can enjoy a day of fantastic cricket from just £50."
