No fracture for Vaughan
England captain Michael Vaughan suffered heavy bruising but no fracture after being injured during practice for the second npower Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
Vaughan was hit on the right elbow by a delivery from Hampshire paceman Chris Tremlett while batting in the nets and was taken to a Birmingham hospital for an X-ray.
The England management will reassess Vaughan's condition after practice on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old rejoined the England camp this week in high spirits after hitting a one-day century for Yorkshire against Derbyshire on Sunday.
Durham all-rounder Paul Collingwood was added to the squad on Monday evening to strengthen England's selection options.
Marcus Trescothick would be the likely choice as skipper if Vaughan is ruled out but the Somerset opener is confident his team-mate will recover in time.
Trescothick said: "It’s a bit of an unknown at the moment. I’ve been hit there quite a few times - Andrew Caddick used to hit me there for fun - and generally it’s really painful for 24 hours and then it eases pretty quickly.
"We’re hopeful but he’s obviously pretty sore at the moment."
