Edgbaston rain

Rain forces the abandonment of the fifth and final day at Edgbaston. The third Investec Test therefore ended in a predictable draw

The final Investec Test between England and West Indies ended in a predictable draw after a third washout at Edgbaston.

After the opening two days of the match had been lost to the weather, a positive result always appeared unlikely, and further rain prevented England from resuming their first innings this morning on 221 for five in reply to West Indies’ 426 all out.

With no sign of any improvement in conditions, play was eventually abandoned at 3:12pm.

Andrew Strauss’ side had already secured victory in the three-match series - and the Wisden Trophy - after triumphing by five and nine wickets respectively at Lord's and Trent Bridge.

Tino Best was unsurprisingly named as man of the match after recording the highest score by a Test number 11 yesterday. His thrilling innings of 95 will live long in the memory of those who witnessed it.

Live Text Commentary

3:12pm - PLAY ABANDONED - MATCH DRAWN - The least surprising news of the day is finally confirmed. There will be no play today and the match is therefore drawn. England take the series 2-0 and will next be in action on Saturday when the NatWest Series against West Indies kicks off at the Ageas Bowl. Be sure to join us at ecb.co.uk for that one.

2:30pm - Quite a bit of confusion here as to why the match has yet to be called off. Rest assured we will bring you news as soon as we get it.

2:04pm - Although it may take a little longer than I first thought! It is still raining by the way.

1:32pm - It would appear confirmation of an abandonment may not be long in coming...

1:15pm - The only news I can bring you from Edgbaston is that I have just had my lunch, a rather delicious lasagne.

12:30pm - The general feeling here in the press box is that it is simply a matter of time before play is abandoned for the day. It is still raining steadily, but the groundstaff have not given up just yet and two blotter machines are currently removing water from the covers.

11:48am - If you are looking for something else to read, why not check our our round-up of Sunday's Clydesdale Bank 40 action, which leads off on an awesome display from Eoin Morgan.

11:21am - Nothing doing at Edgbaston, for the foreseeable future at least. Hopefully there is better weather at Grace Road tomorrow, when Leicestershire begin the defence of their Friends Life t20 crown with a home game against Nottinghamshire. You can read an exclusive interview with Foxes batsman Josh Cobb here.

11:03am - As the scheduled start time slips by with rain continuing to fall, you have to feel a little sorry for Ian Bell, who ended day four unbeaten on 76. No Warwickshire batsman has ever made a Test century at this ground and, unless conditions unexpectedly improve, that will remain the case.

10:55am - Few who witnessed Best's remarkable innings will forget it in a hurry. After coming in at 283 for nine, he thrilled the Birmingham crowd with a sensational 95 - comfortably the highest score by a Test number 11. Best also picked up two wickets in England's reply, but it was his batting that provided the main talking point at the close.

10:50am - The weather may have denied us a full Test match, but we were at least able to witness two memorable comebacks over the weekend. On Saturday, Graham Onions - whose career appeared in doubt due to a serious back injury - was back among the wickets in his first Test appearance since January 2010, while yesterday's action was dominated by one man - Tino la Bertram Best.

10:37am - That's right, the covers are out once again and we look set to suffer a third washout, having already lost the first two days of this third Investec Test. Should we get any action, England will resume 205 runs in arrears on 221 for five, but it appears unlikely.

10:30am - Hello again from Edgbaston. As expected, it's raining...
