Sunil Narine is hoping to fulfil a dream by forcing his way into West Indies’ plans for the final Investec Test against England following his unexpected call-up this week.

The West Indies Cricket Board summoned the spinner after paceman Kemar Roach was ruled out of the rest of the tour due to a shin injury.

Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine is desperate to make his five-day debut in the third Investec Test. "The dream was always to play Test cricket," he admitted

Narine is uncapped at Test level, but has taken 14 wickets in eight one-day internationals and was named the player of the tournament after impressing during a successful Indian Premier League campaign with winners Kolkata Knight Riders.

Narine admits his call-up came out of the blue, having only recently returned to Trinidad from India, but is now hoping he can help West Indies end the three-match series, in which they are 2-0 down, against England on a high.

“I wasn't expecting this at all. I came back home and I was starting to look ahead to the limited-overs series (in England),” he said.

“When I got the call for the Test series, words cannot explain how I felt at that moment. The dream was always to play Test cricket and I’m halfway there."

He added: “I would like to play in the last Test and try to help West Indies pull one back, but even if I do not, I will not be too despondent.

“We have the one-day internationals and a Twenty20 international coming up, and if I'm in the squad for those games, the time in England would help me get fully prepared for the upcoming matches.

“I have not played a lot in England, so it will be vital that I get acclimatised as quickly as possible. I do not want to get ahead of myself and make any predictions.

“I just want to prepare well, mentally and physically, and give my all for West Indies.”
