Head coach Mike Hesson admits there is palpable excitement in the New Zealand ranks ahead of their tour to England.

The Black Caps lost the Twenty20 and one-day international legs of the reverse trip earlier this year before a competitive Test series was drawn 0-0.

It took an unlikely rearguard from England in the final encounter to secure the latter result, boosting the confidence of Hesson’s men for two Tests and three ODIs.

New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson has described the tour of England as "a huge tour for us and one that everyone is looking forward to."

Hesson - who was aboard the squad's flight headed for London via Los Angeles last night - said: “I think the guys are extremely excited with any England tour.

“There's a Test at Lord's in three weeks and it's hard to keep the smiles off their faces. It's a huge tour for us and one that everyone is looking forward to."

Aside from the aforementioned encounters, New Zealand will also partake in the Champions Trophy.

Ahead of the first Test at Lord's will be warm-up matches against Derbyshire and England Lions.

Hesson believes both games will prove important in determining his line-up for the opening Test.

“We'd like to think that by the time we get to the Test that we've got a number of guys pushing their claim,” he said.

“Everyone's going to need some good performances to push their case.”
