Fan Swann wins Edgbaston stand honour
Edgbaston’s West Stand will be renamed the David Swann Stand on day three of this week's Investec Test between England and West Indies thanks to a promotion for supporters that have purchased tickets within the stand.
On Saturday, David - who is Head of Pricing EMEA at Travelex and lives in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey - will see his name branded along the back of the new West Stand, which was completed as part of Edgbaston's £32million redevelopment.
"I first came to Edgbaston for the Ashes Test in 2009 and loved the atmosphere and experience so much that we decided to return, although I didn't expect to have a stand renamed in my honour," he said.
"Not many people can say they've had part of one of the world's most famous cricket venues renamed in their honour, so I feel very privileged and can't wait for the day.”
David will be in attendance at Edgbaston with two friends and his fiancée, whom he met at a cricket match at the Kia Oval. He will have his photo taken in front of the renamed stand before the teams take to the field.
Colin Povey, Chief Executive of Edgbaston Stadium, said: "The West Stand opened last summer as part of our £32million redevelopment, so this will only be the second time that it's been used for an international fixture.
"With no naming rights partner currently in place, we thought it would be a great opportunity to make a supporter's day and I'm sure David will have a great day that he will never forget."
Tickets are still available for the third Investec Test, with savings of up to 70% for groups and tickets for under-16s just £1 on day one. Please log on to www.edgbaston.com/tickets to secure your seats or call the 24-hour ticket hotline on 0844 847 1902.
