Ageas Bowl ODI nears sell-out
A late surge in ticket sales for the opening NatWest Series one-day international between England and West Indies at the Ageas Bowl means the game on Saturday 16 June is almost sold out.
The inclusion of Chris Gayle in the Windies’ squad has coincided with tickets being sold at more than 100 per day, leaving around only 500 left.
With the venue's permanent capacity already sold out, Hampshire have brought in a further 2,000 temporary seats for the fixture - an allocation they now expect to sell out in the days leading up to the match.
Group commercial director Zac Toumazi said: "We're delighted but not surprised at the interest generated by the inclusion of Chris Gayle in the West Indies squad.
“He's, without doubt, one of the finest all-rounders in limited-overs cricket at the moment and obviously proves a huge draw for cricket fans across the south coast.
"In addition, I think the Ageas Bowl has a solid fan base of cricket-lovers who come back to the venue year after year because they know how good the venue is at hosting international matches.
“From our groundsmen’s heroics to get play going at last year's inaugural Test match to the catering and hospitality people know that, at the Ageas Bowl, we do everything in our power to get cricket matches on - and the off-field entertainment is also very, very good."
