Cummins going home
Australia paceman Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the remainder of the NatWest Series against England due to a side strain.
The highly-rated 19-year-old picked up the injury during Friday’s opening match at Lord’s, where England secured a 1-0 lead, but was able to bowl a full 10-over allocation.
Australia team doctor John Orchard said: “Pat sustained an abdominal muscle strain on his left side during the first ODI at Lord’s. Whilst he was able to complete his 10 overs, he was sore after the game and was scanned, the results of which have revealed a medium grade side-strain.
“This will keep him out of the remainder of the England tour. His return to cricket will be decided in due course, based on follow-up examinations in Australia.
Australia have opted against calling up a replacement, with Mitchell Johnson, Ben Hilfenhaus and James Pattinson all on hand to replace Cummins.
