Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid, who has scored more than 10,000 format runs, last played a one-day international during the 2009 Champions Trophy

India have recalled veteran batsman Rahul Dravid to their limited-overs squad, but will be without the injured Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh for the NatWest Twenty20 International and NatWest Series against England.

Dravid, who has never played a T20 international, has not featured in a one-day international since 2009 and was not part of the squad which won the World Cup four months ago.

But the 38-year-old has been a near lone success in the npower Test series against England, scoring a century in each of two matches so far.

His recall is nonetheless a surprise - something which cannot be said for the omission of off-spinner Harbhajan and destructive middle-order batsman Yuvraj, who have both been ruled out of the final two Tests after suffering respective stomach and finger injuries at Trent Bridge.

Dravid, India’s captain at the 2007 World Cup and scorer of 10,765 runs in 339 ODIs, last played an ODI at the 2009 Champions Trophy in South Africa.

Fast bowler Sreesanth, recalled to India’s Test side in Nottingham in place of the injured Zaheer Khan, does not figure in the 16-man squad announced this morning for one T20 and five ODIs from August 31.

Zaheer, hoping to be back from hamstring trouble to face England in the third Test at Edgbaston, is included - but there is no place for fit-again fellow left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra.

India limited-overs squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt & wk), Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag (vice-capt), Rahul Dravid, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Parthiv Patel (wk), Amit Mishra, Ravichandran Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Praveen Kumar, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar.
