No play was possible in the third NatWest Series one-day international between England and West Indies at Headingley Carnegie.

England headed into the encounter with an unassailable 2-0 lead and were looking to round off the rubber on a high.

However, the umpires called time on proceedings at 1:05pm after persistent rain left the outfield saturated.

Live Text Commentary

1:11pm - MATCH ABANDONED DUE TO RAIN - I am afraid that is that for the day. There will be no action in the third NatWest Series one-day international and England, therefore, take the series 2-0.

1pm - The umpires are now out in the middle for an inspection. They are, though, under the cover of umbrellas so there may still be a bit of drizzle in the air.

12:57pm - It appears to have stopped raining at Headingley, though there is still a considerable amount of standing water on the outfield. Whether or not we have seen the last of the inclement weather remains to be seen. Let's hope so.

12:27pm - As much as being out in the middle would be my worst nightmare right now, driving the Super Soppers actually looks quite fun. Not sure those currently doing it would agree, however, given their efforts are utterly futile. It's still raining, by the way.

Headingley Carnegie

12:04pm - There is something called the Phil Brown Quiz about to start in the media dining area at Headingley. I am told that it is not named after the former Hull City manager, otherwise I imagine it would have taken place on the outfield.

11:46am - There is some news, but it is far from exciting. There will be an early lunch taken at 12:30pm and should the weather improve, an inspection will follow.

11:26am - The umpires are out in the middle - not that there is any sign of things improving. There are more puddles on the outfield now and the rain is showing no signs of stopping.

11:15am - Spare a thought, by the way, for my 85-year-old grandfather, who is in attendance today. He has not seen a live cricket match for around 40 years and now finds himself in the stands with my dad watching the rain fall. Depressing.

10:52am - The rain, I am afraid to say, is relentless at the moment. The groundstaff are doing their best to mop up, but the water the Super Soppers are collecting is just being replaced by further precipitation.

10:20am - I imagine this would be all the more frustrating for England had they not taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series at the Kia Oval on Tuesday. I saw Stuart Meaker as I was strolling towards the press box, though, and he more than most has reason to hope the rain abates. The in-form paceman was given a place in the squad alongside James Tredwell and Chris Woakes, with England opting to rest Tim Bresnan, Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad.

10am: - Hello and welcome to live coverage of the third NatWest Series one-day international between England and West Indies. I'm afraid my nightmare of trying to be a meteorologist for the day appears to be becoming reality. It's extremely bleak at Headingley Carnegie; the covers are on and rain is still falling.
