England are up to third in the latest International Cricket Council one-day international rankings following their 4-0 NatWest Series thrashing of Australia.

Alastair Cook’s men would have taken over as the number-one ranked side had they won all five matches, but rain prevented play in the third ODI at Edgbaston.

Australia therefore retain top spot, although South Africa, England and India are all close behind.

Steven Finn and Eoin Morgan have each made significant strides in the player rankings after impressing over the past fortnight.

Finn, the leading wicket-taker in the rubber with eight scalps at an average of 19, is now England’s leading representative in the bowling standings. He stands fifth, two places ahead of spinner Graeme Swann.

Morgan, meanwhile, has risen 12 places to 18th in the batting rankings, which feature Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott in the top 10.
