South Africa have rested all-rounder Jacques Kallis for the NatWest one-day international series against England.

The 36-year-old, who scored an unbeaten 182 to help South Africa win the first Test against England by an innings and 12 runs at the Kia Oval on Monday, has been replaced by the uncapped Dean Elgar.

In naming their 15-man squad, Cricket South Africa announced that Kallis is “being rested ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 in September”.

South Africa have rested veteran all-rounder Jacques Kallis for the NatWest ODI series against England which kicks-off on August 24

The other changes to the squad that claimed a 3-0 ODI series win in New Zealand earlier this year sees spinner Imran Tahir and all-rounder Ryan McLaren recalled.

CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson said of 25-year-old all-rounder Elgar: “Dean has been in our plans for some time and might well have made his debut last year but for injury.”

He added of the other two new additions: “Imran is a genuine wicket-taking bowler and his selection enables us to explore our options in this area.

"Ryan has just come off some exceptional form for the South Africa A side and the added depth he provides in the seam bowling department will allow us to rotate players if we feel the need arises."

South Africa play England in five ODIs, the first of which takes place on August 24 in Cardiff, after which the two countries will play three T20 internationals.

The Proteas will name their squad for those T20 matches, as well as ICC World Twenty20, in mid-August.

South Africa ODI squad: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla (vice-captain), JP Duminy, Francois du Plessis, Dean Elgar, Imran Tahir, Ryan McLaren, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Graeme Smith, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
