Kieswetter keeping feet on the ground

NatWest Series

Watch exclusive post-match reaction from the Kia Oval with Craig Kieswetter

Craig Kieswetter refuses to get carried away with his contribution to England’s one-day side after his half-century underpinned a narrow victory over India in the third NatWest Series clash at the Kia Oval.

The wicketkeeper-batsman breezed to 51 off 46 balls to help Alastair Cook’s men record a three-wicket triumph under the Duckworth/Lewis method in a rain-reduced encounter.

Yesterday’s efforts built upon a superb 46 off just 25 deliveries in the seven-wicket win against the tourists at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday and Kieswetter is keen to make the most of his purple patch.

He told ecb.co.uk: “I feel I’ve put a lot of hard work in and I’m just trying to do my role the best that I can for the side. Some days, it’ll come off, some days it won’t, but at the moment it’s going okay.

“Form comes and goes, the worm always turns and I guess what’s great about international cricket is to see how characters handle that pressure.

“At the moment, it’s only two scores, it’s not two great scores or two big scores, it’s just two contributing scores to the team and for me that’s what I want to be doing for England.”

Kieswetter has forced his way back into the limited-overs sides this summer after being dropped for the winter tour of Australia and the World Cup.

Along with Jade Dernbach, he has been rewarded with an increment contract this week but the explosive opener is aware he can not afford to rest on his laurels.

“You’ve got to score runs or take wickets to keep that run in the side; competition’s fierce - we’ve seen how great the English county season’s going for all the boys - so for me it’s about keeping it simple,” he added.

“It’s a fantastic environment to be part of and I guess just being able to contribute is a great feeling for all the boys.

“Hopefully we can go on and win the series but for us, it’s about taking each game as it comes.”
