Peter Moores will meet up with his fellow England selectors at Worcester on Thursday aiming to identify the captaincy candidate who can best implement his vision for one-day success.

Moores has enjoyed an impressive start as England coach since succeeding Duncan Fletcher in April, beginning his reign with a comprehensive 3-0 npower Test series triumph over West Indies.

He now faces a meeting at the England Lions match against West Indies with chairman of selectors David Graveney and fellow selector Geoff Miller to formulate the new one-day squad and identify a successor as captain to Michael Vaughan.

And Moores expects the full England side to be tested by West Indies' one-day pedigree in the NatWest Series.

“In a one-day game, they have people like Chris Gayle up front and they have good strikers of the ball and we’ll have to play well if we’re going to beat them,” warned Moores.

“In some ways, that’s quite exciting for us because the challenge is out there for us to take some of the momentum we’ve got from the Test match series into the one-dayers and try and get ourselves up and running.”

England have plenty of opportunity to begin the rebuilding process as they look towards the 2011 World Cup in Asia.

Next week, they have back-to-back Twenty20 matches against West Indies followed by three one-day internationals and, later this summer, they have a seven-match one-day series with India followed by the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.

The key for Moores is to build a squad that is capable of competing at the highest level on a regular basis.

“What’s really exciting about the one-day game is that we’ve got scope because we’ve got some really good players,” he added.

“They haven’t quite yet gelled together or found a formula that brings success and that’s one of the challenges I’ve got, along with the new captain and the team.

“They’ve got to find a way of playing and a style of playing that they can repeat and they can start moving up those rankings.”
