Pakistan call up Irfan and Shafiq
Pakistan have bolstered their squad for the NatWest one-day international series to 15 with the additions of fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and batsman Asad Shafiq.
Irfan, the 28-year-old uncapped Khan Research Laboratories left-armer, is believed to be close to 7ft tall, and should prove a handful for England’s batsmen.
Shafiq, 24, a top-order batsman who can keep wicket, made his ODI debut in Pakistan’s Asia Cup campaign earlier this year.
Irfan and Shafiq have been called up due to the withdrawal of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer, who have been charged with various offences under the International Cricket Council's Anti-Corruption Code and provisionally suspended by the ICC from all cricket as a result.
A Pakistan Cricket Board statement read: “Both players are currently on tour to Sri Lanka with the Pakistan A team and have been asked to join the national squad in UK next week.
“Any further replacement, if required, will be announced at a later stage.”
The five-match ODI series begins on September 10 at the Emirates Durham ICG, following two Twenty20 internationals at the SWALEC Stadium on Sunday and Tuesday.
