Pakistan cut Malik for one-dayers
Former captain Shoaib Malik has been omitted from Pakistan’s squad for the NatWest International Twenty20 and NatWest Series against England.
The all-rounder’s recent lack of form, which also saw him miss out on last week’s third npower Test victory, appears to have cost him his one-day place.
Malik, who has 192 one-day international and 32 Twenty20 international caps, led his country as recently as February’s drawn T20 series against England.
In contrast, Mohammad Yousuf’s return to favour continues as he is named in a 16-man party following his recall to the Test party.
However, fellow experienced batsman Younus Khan has again been overlooked, as he was for the Test series.
Other notable inclusions are paceman Shoaib Akhtar, who has re-established himself in Pakistan’s limted-overs set-up, and all-rounder Abdul Razzaq.
Shahid Afridi, who quit as Test skipper last month, retains the one-day captaincy for two T20 internationals, the first on September 5, with five one-day internationals to follow.
Pakistan squad: Shahid Afridi (captain), Salman Butt, Shahzaib Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Yousuf, Azhar Ali, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Fawad Alam, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Akhtar, Wahab Riaz.
