Sehwag and Ishant out of NatWest Series
Virender Sehwag and Ishant Sharma will miss the the Natwest International Twenty20 and NatWest Series.
The destructive opening batsman and one-day vice-captain, still struggling with a hearing problem, and the fast bowler will be replaced by Ajinkya Rahane and Varun Aaron respectively.
A statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed Sehwag and Ishant’s absence - on the final morning of the npower Test series.
Sehwag has been unable to find any form at the top of the order in four Test innings since joining India’s tour late after shoulder surgery.
He and Ishant will miss the Twenty20 match at Old Trafford on August 31 and five one-day internationals, from September 3.
The BCCI statement read: “Mr Sehwag suffered from labyrinthitis of the left ear on 24 July 2011.
“Although his condition has improved, he continues to experience headaches. An ENT specialist, who was consulted on the same, has said that he will take two more weeks to recover completely.
“Mr Sehwag has made good progress since the surgery on his right shoulder. He will be continuing rehabilitation to build up his throwing and bowling fitness.”
Ishant, meanwhile, was injured in India’s innings defeat in the third Test at Edgbaston last week.
“Mr Sharma sustained a ligament injury in his left ankle during the Birmingham Test of the ongoing series,” the statement added.
“He has responded well to treatment, but will need to undergo a course of intensive rehabilitation and training to prevent recurrence of the pain in his left ankle.”
Rahane, a 23-year-old batsman, and 21-year-old seam bowler Aaron are both uncapped.
