South Africa have accepted captain Graeme Smith will play no part in the remainder of the NatWest Series because of his ongoing struggle with tennis elbow.
Smith saw a surgeon this morning to determine the extend of the problem, after which it was confirmed his participation in the tour is over.
Jacques Kallis will stand in for Smith during the remainder of the series, which England lead 2-0 with three matches to play.
Hashim Amla is tipped to take Smith's place at the top of the South Africa order for the third match at the Brit Oval, which takes place tomorrow.
“We have got to come up and play some good cricket,” said Kallis. “The pressure is on England to win the series. I think it’s going to be a tough couple of games.”
