Trott a doubt for Trent Bridge
Jonathan Trott remains a doubt for England’s final NatWest Series one-day international against South Africa, despite the favourable result of an x-ray on his injured right hand today.
The England number three was struck a painful blow by a short ball from Dale Steyn during a six-wicket win at Lord’s yesterday.
After he had shown obvious signs of discomfort during a century stand with Ian Bell, there were fears he might have broken bones and England would have to call up a replacement batsman for Trent Bridge on Wednesday.
Despite an encouraging update this afternoon, Trott is still a doubtful participant as world number ones England seek to close out series victory after taking a 2-1 lead at the home of cricket.
Somerset batsman Jos Buttler, who turns 22 on Saturday, has accordingly been called up as cover.
Buttler has one ODI cap to his name, and has also represented England in eight Twenty20 internationals.
