Anderson called up as injury cover
James Anderson has been added to the England squad for the NatWest International T20 Series against South Africa.
The Lancashire seamer displayed fine form with the new ball in claiming 2-41 in the final NatWest Series encounter with the Proteas at Trent Bridge and comes into the reckoning as cover for Steven Finn, who has a stiff back that ruled him out of last night’s match.
Anderson, 30, has not played for England in the shortest form of the game since his appearance against South Africa in a match at Centurion in November 2009.
He is not part of the England squad for the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, which starts later this month.
The first game of the three-match series with South Africa takes place at Emirates Durham IGC on Saturday, before moving to Anderson’s home ground of Old Trafford two days later and finishing at Edgbaston on Wednesday.
