Coach David Moore believes West Indies need to start playing more Twenty20 cricket if they are to become a bigger force in the shortened version of the game.
The Windies reached rock bottom on their tour of England when they were bowled out for 84 by Derbyshire in a warm-up clash for the two meetings with England at The Brit Oval on Thursday and Friday.
Their only international experience of Twenty20 to date came against New Zealand in Auckland 16 months ago when they were involved in a tie.
Derbyshire had won only one of their previous 11 games in all competitions - against Scotland - but they were too strong for a Windies side lacking only Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Denesh Ramdin of their probable line-up to face England.
Moore said: “We haven’t played enough of this type of cricket, particularly at international level. This is only our second Twenty20 game so the players are still coming to grips with it.
“It is all about experience. The English county teams play Twenty20 cricket all the time and they play it pretty well, have worked out how to play it so it is a matter of us adapting quickly and working out how to play the game.
“Do we need to start playing more of this kind of cricket? I think so. It’s important to play this style of cricket as a team.
“There are a lot of international captains calling for it (Twenty20) to be cut down so we won’t get too overly excited about it just yet but this team hasn’t played any.”
