Response gladdens Colly
England captain Paul Collingwood was pleased that his side had learned quickly in the second contest after losing the first NatWest international Twenty20 clash with West Indies by 15 runs.
Owais Shah guided England home with a beautifully manufactured not-out innings of 55 as England successfully chased-down the 170 victory target in the second contest.
Collingwood said: "It is a great feeling to get that first win as captain but I am just very proud of the boys and the effort they have put in during the past week.
"We learned a lot from the experience of the first game and spoke about that on Friday morning. They learned a lot but went out there and did it on the park tonight and that is a real special thing.
"There were a lot of good things about last night as well. Our intent was fantastic and we were still positive and to get close to a massive total like that was a great effort.
"From the bowling and fielding point of view, we spoke about where we could improve and for the bowlers to go out after 24 hours and choose when to bowl slow balls and when to bowl 'death' balls was excellent and everything came right.
"It is a good West Indies Twenty20 side who can hit the ball out of the park at any time. I thought it was a great effort by a young set of boys."
Windies skipper Chris Gayle felt his side let England off the hook in the second game after looking set for long periods to complete a Twenty20 double.
He said: "With something like 40 runs to get from the final four overs, I thought we were in control.
"But I thought they batted well and capitalised on the mistakes we made in the field so you have to give credit to them.
"You have to give credit to Shah. I thought he really showed a lot of composure, taking the game home for England. He's not really a big-hitter of the ball but he rotated the strike which is very important and picked up runs here and there.
"But overall it has helped us a lot playing these two Twenty20 games and they will make a big difference going into the first one-day game on Sunday.
"I thought the guys' preparation was really good leading into these games and hopefully the guys can make the most out of this opportunity and we're now looking forward to Lord's."
