Zero tolerance for Cardiff touts

Cardiff will host its inaugural Test when Australia come to defend the Ashes and avenge 2005 defeat

Glamorgan have adopted a zero tolerance policy for ticket touts in the run-up to Cardiff’s inaugural Test match.

The county have cancelled six tickets discovered on an internet auction site related to the first npower Ashes Test match, which begins on July 8, 2009.

Glamorgan have blacklisted the individual from purchasing any international tickets from the club for the next 5 years.

This punishment is part of the process put in place by the Welsh county in the event of terms and conditions being broken.

A club statement said: “Glamorgan Cricket, in conjunction with the ECB, has been proactive in taking measures to reduce the opportunity for ticket touts to profit from the secondary sales of tickets for next year's npower Ashes Test series.

“Glamorgan Cricket limited the number of tickets per order when they went on general sale earlier this month to reduce bulk buying by ticket touts.”

Glamorgan operations director Simon Lee added: "We believe by setting the standard of a zero tolerance to individuals breaking the terms and conditions and selling of their tickets, we will help squeeze ticket touts out of business and protect the genuine fans wishing to come to the game."

Demand for the first Test of the 2009 Ashes has already proved to be immense with tickets selling out in just a couple of hours earlier this month.

Glamorgan received 2.5 million hits on their website and are expecting a similar demand for a second general sale date in the New Year.

Glamorgan urge those who have bought tickets but now cannot attend to contact the club directly, and not place them on internet auction sites.
