Panesar praises Moores
Monty Panesar believes England coach Peter Moores can take the team to “the next level”.
The Northamptonshire spinner is part of the squad to face Sri Lanka in the forthcoming three-Test tour and believes Moores' input has been invaluable to the side since replacing Duncan Fletcher in April this year.
“Peter Moores has been a revelation,” Panesar said.
“The way he has this positivity, this enthusiasm, there is a sense of a relaxed environment where you can confidently express yourself within the England team.
“We have shown that great spirit and I think he will take England to the next level.”
Panesar was part of the England one-day squad which secured their first major series triumph in 20 years on the sub-continent with a series victory over the Sri Lankans, but only played the final match with Graeme Swann preferred in the early encounters.
However, the 25-year-old insists he is looking forward to fighting for his place in the side.
“In cricket there will be times when you don’t get a chance to play and there will be times you are selected - that’s part of being a cricketer,” Panesar told Sky Sports News.
“Graeme Swann is a fantastic cricketer. I’ve played with him at Northants and we’ve bowled together as well.”
And Panesar is confident England can repeat their one-day success against Sri Lanka at Test level.
He added: “I think we have a good chance. We have a good team spirit amongst the squad and recently we’ve shown in the one-dayers how we turned it around after losing the first game.”
