England are now guaranteed to sit second in the International Cricket Council ODI rankings on the cut-off date of April 1, ensuring they will pick up $US75,000.

Alastair Cook’s side could have been overhauled as the nearest challengers to India, who will be awarded $US175,000, had South Africa defeated Pakistan by a margin of 4-1 or better in their recent five-match series.

However, despite emerging victorious in Benoni yesterday to triumph in the rubber, the Proteas’ winning margin of 3-2 was not enough to lift them above England or third-placed Australia.

Steven Finn remains third in the ODI bowling rankings, while Jonathan Trott is England’s highest-ranked batsman in fifth position.
