England Test captain Andrew Strauss has been given an extra week’s rest following the Investec Tests with South Africa and will miss Middlesex’s LV= County Championship game with Worcestershire, starting today.

Strauss followed last week’s loss at Lord’s, which completed a 2-0 series defeat, with a family holiday. He was due to return to action today at New Road, but has been given more time to recover.

The 35-year-old opening batsman could feature in Middlesex’s last match of the season, the championship visit of Lancashire to Lord’s beginning a week today.
