Hampshire spinner Shaun Udal believes team-mate Chris Tremlett’s England call-up has been well deserved.
Paceman Tremlett, 25, has been named in the squad for England’s one-day series against Australia and New Zealand in the new year.
Tremlett played three one-day internationals in the summer of 2005 but has not featured since pulling out of the tour of Pakistan last winter due to injury problems.
He has been given his chance following the retirement of Steve Harmison from one-day international cricket and the decision to leave out youngster Stuart Broad.
Udal, who has played 11 one-day internationals, said: “I am very pleased for him. By his own admission he has had trouble with injuries but his one-day record for Hampshire is outstanding.
“He is one of the most difficult players to face and he’s got a chance now if he plays well to go to the World Cup.
“Steve Harmison retiring has helped and Stuart Broad is unlucky but it is a big opportunity for Chris.”
