Collins crushes Hertfordshire
Ben Collins blew away Hertfordshire with 5-17 to help Leicestershire & Rutland win the Under-17 'B' County Cup at Kibworth.
After the East Midlanders posted 180 for seven, Collins ran through the batting line-up as Hertfordshire were bowled out for a meagre 78.
That Leicestershire & Rutland even reached such a total was due to an eight wicket stand of 77 between Aiden Morris and George Crossley.
Coming together with the innings in serious trouble at 103 for seven, the pair - Crossley taking the lead role with 42 not out and Morris adding 29 - gave their side something to bowl at.
Thomas Wells was the only other batsman to reach 20 but Hertfordshire were left to rue a missed opportunity.
Adam Carlson was the pick of the attack with 2-18 from ten overs, a spell which included five maidens, while new ball bowler William Thorne provided support with two wickets.
Hertforshire did not come close in their attempted chase. Losing a wicket without a run on the board, they soon found themselves 29 for five as Leicestershire & Rutland's bowlers ran amok.
Wells, with 2-7 in seven overs, completed a fine all-round display, but it was left to Collins to provide the finishing touches with a five-wicket haul that brought victory in the 33rd over.
