Indoor championship hots up
The ECB Indoor National Club Championship has reached the county play-off stages, with 32 teams playing off for a place in one of four regional finals on Sunday 26 February.
Reigning champions Canterbury CC will have to wait another week before they know if they have secured their place in the play-offs, after the Kent county final was snowed off last weekend.
However, last season's runners-up Blaydon CC, of Durham, experienced no such weather problems. Having already won their county competition, they played their play-off match early against Lancashire winners Sefton Park CC last weekend.
After posting an imposing total of 128 for three from 12 overs, Blaydon, who won this competition in 2007, never gave Sefton Park a chance in reply, dismissing them for just 70 to book their place in the northern regional final at Derbyshire at the end of the month.
In the only other play-off match to be played so far, Hook & Newnham Basics CC of Hampshire travelled to the Isle of Wight to face their champions Newport CC.
The hosts batted first but could only score a modest 79 for four, which Hook and Newnham Basics chased down with the loss of four wickets to qualify for the south-east final.
Godmanchester Town CC of Huntingdonshire, the 2010 champions, will host the winners of the Warwickshire county finals, which were also postponed last weekend following snowy conditions, for a place in the Midlands regional final at Edgbaston.
Poole Town CC, the 2010 runners-up, have also made it through from the Dorset county competition and will take on Wiltshire’s Great Bedwyn CC for a place in the south-west regional final.
The national finals of the Men's Indoor National Club Championship will be played at the MCC Indoor School at Lord's on Sunday 18 March. Admission is free for all spectators.
