Cockspur Cup final - the players

Kibworth take on Malden Wanderers in the 2008 final of the Cockspur Cup at Lord's on September 9 - here are profiles of the players from both sides.

Malden Wanderers

John A. Hess: An attacking opening batsman and occasional wicket keeper in his second season with Malden Wanderers, John is yet to miss a first team game in 2 years. He toured Barbados in 1999 and 2002 with City of London Freemens School in the Sir Garfield Sobers tournament. He has played representative cricket for Surrey Under 19’s, Dorset and English Universities.

Daniel R. Euston (wk): Wicketkeeper and top order batsman. Daniel has been at Malden since the age of 13 and held a 1st XI place since the age of 15. He was a product of the Middlesex youth set-up, and went on to represent Surrey at Under 19 and 2nd XI levels. Was part of the ECB Under 16 national squad and spent a year on the MCC groundstaff in 2001.

Jonathan P. Albert: A batter, off-spinner and specialist cover point fielder. Jonathan joined the club in 1996 as a 17 year-old and has represented Surrey Under 19’s. Toured Barbados as captain of City of London Freemen’s School in 1997.

Laurie J.Evans: Laurie joined Malden as a 16 year old and has played in the 1st XI ever since. A talented batsman who has been part of the Surrey youth set up before signing a professional contract with Surrey in 2006. Represented Durham University in 2007 and played for the MCC against the West Indies in the same summer.

Alan C.R. Cope: Alan is a top order batsman and deceptively fast seam bowler. He has been at Malden Wanderers since 2005. Played age group cricket for Surrey from 8-19 and has gone on to play 2nd XI cricket for Surrey and Gloucestershire. Currently captain of Loughborough UCCE 1st XI and has played for British Universities. Spent a season at Midland Guildford CC in Perth.

David E. Gorrod: A medium pace seam bowler and middle-order batsman, David has played for Malden Wanderers since 1989. David captained the club between 1996 and 2002. He was part of the London Cricket College between 1995 and 1997, and has gone on to play 2nd XI cricket for Surrey and represent the Club Cricket Conference. He also spent a season in New Zealand playing for North Shore CC in Auckland.

James A. Bond: An experienced middle-order batsman, James joined the club in 1995 and has been part of league winning sides in 2000 and 2007.

Giles D. Puckle (c): A left arm spinner and middle order batsman, Giles is in his sixth season as club captain at Malden. He has been at the club since the age of 10. He captained Surrey Under 19’s, and played 2nd XI cricket for the county. Has also spent seasons overseas with Midland Guildford CC in Perth and Grafton CC in Auckland.

Neil J. Mander: Seam bowling and middle-order batting all-rounder. Neil has been a part of the 1st XI at Malden since the age of 15. He represented Surrey at youth level and was a member of the Surrey Under 19 tour to Sri Lanka in 2002.

Simon G.D. Crampton: Left arm spinner in his first year at Malden Wanderers. Simon played county youth cricket for Middlesex and spent a season in Perth before playing University UCCE cricket at Bradford and Leeds. He has played county 2nd XI cricket for Surrey and Middlesex and is a playing member of the MCC.

Michael C. Cottrell: Opening right-arm bowler, Michael joined Malden Wanderers in 2003. He is a product of the Surrey Youth system and has represented the county at Second XI level. He was also a member of the Surrey Under 19 tour to Sri Lanka in 2002. As a nineteen year old Michael spent a winter playing in Perth, Australia.

Arif Rashid: Top order left handed batsman, Arif captained his previous club Ealing to league championships and the Evening Standard Cup final. He represented Surrey as a junior player, and has gone on play for the Middlesex league representative team and the Club Cricket Conference.

James M.L. Boudville: James is a young opening bowler who has broken into the 1st XI at Malden this season. A product of John Fisher School, he has also earned recognition for Surrey Under 19’s this summer on the back of his impressive performances.

John Hanger: classy opening bat, who has been with the club over 10 years. Labelled with the 'shot of the day' at Lords in 2004

Sunny Patel: 18 year old opening bat. On Leicester's academy and has represented Leicestershire 2nds and Eng u'19's last season. Made key contributions as an opening batsman throughout this year's Cup run.

Nick Ferraby: Quick scoring Batsman and medium paced bowler. Brilliant hundred in the 2007 quarter final against Kidderminster. In the squad for Leicestershire's game v Northants starting tomorrow

Andy Smith: Captain and middle order batsman and very occasional leg spin.

Tim Mason: 3 wickets in the 2004 final. Off-spinner and middle order batsman. Played for Leicestershire and Essex and Shropshire.

Simon Renshaw: Opening bowler and middle order hard-hitting. Capable of winning the game in either suit. Played for Hampshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire

Aamir Mahmood: Opening bowler and middle order hard-hitting. Capable of winning the game in either suit.

Russell Spiers: Most experienced player in the squad. Left arm spinner with a few Lords finals behind him. The Legend! Played for Staffordshire and making his 6th appearance at Lord's in a Final.

Steve Thompson: Experienced wicketkeeper. Played in 2004 and 2006 Finals.

Dan Broughton: Quick left arm bowler who has forced his way into the first team last season but sadly failed a fitness test before last year's Final.

Richard Jackson: Right arm off-spinner, middle order batsman. Brilliant fielder

Chris Hill: Right arm fast medium bowler.

Greg Smith: Right hand opening bat who has also come through the junior ranks. After great success earlier this season after a late call-up for the England U19 Test team he is now enjoying an extended run in the Leicestershire county side.

Charlie Morgan: Wicket keeper. Also progressed through our impressive junior set-up
