As Kibworth and Bromley attempt to calm their nerves ahead of the 2007 Cockspur Cup final at Lord's, invites are already making their way to cricket clubs around the country urging entry into The Cockspur Cup (ECB National Club Championship) 2008 with extra prize money on offer for winners.

In addition to an all expenses paid trip to Barbados, courtesy of sponsors Cockspur Rum, next years champions will scoop £6,500, a £500 increase over 2007 and runners-up will see their booty increased by £500 to £3,500. Teams who progress as far as the Group Final (Round 5) qualify for prize money, which started this year at £250 and rises depending upon how far the club progresses in the competition.

Next year, that minimum rises to £300. Group final winners will win £600 (£500) while quarter finallists will see their winnings swell by £150 to £900 and semi-finallists by £250 to £1750.

The entry fee will also increase from £20 to £25 though clubs should bear in mind that the ECB pays the umpires’ fees from the fourth round onwards and provides all match balls from the fifth round onwards.

The first round is scheduled to start on Sunday May 4 with all opening round matches completed by Thursday May 15. The semi-final will take place on Sunday August 17th - or the following Sunday if there is bad weather - and the date of the Lord's final will be confirmed nearer the time.

All club members are welcome to come to Lord's to watch the Kibworth v Bromley final. With the two sides so evenly matched and both gunning for honours, it promises to be a cracking match.

"The Final at Lord’s is always a very special occasion and in the three years in which I have been involved with this competition I have seen many very close and exciting games throughout the competition each year and the Final never disappoints for its sense of occasion and the atmosphere generated on the day," commented Patrick Mahony, ECB Competitions Manager.

The closing date for entries is Friday November 9 2007.Download Cockspur Cup Entry Form 2008 (163 KB) here.
