York scoop Kingfisher Beer Cup jackpot
York Cricket Club claimed an eight-wicket victory over Wanstead and Snaresbrook Cricket Club in the Kingfisher Beer Cup final at Derby yesterday.
York, who were last in the national club final in 1975, restricted Wanstead & Snaresbrook, reaching the last stage for the first time, to 162 for nine from 45 overs, largely thanks to Tom Pringle’s 4-22.
Liam McKendry and Duncan Snell set about the chase by quickly knocking 62 runs off the target.
Oliver Hairs then ensured the game was wrapped up, hitting 10 fours and one maximum in his 45-ball 68, as the Yorkshire Premier League champions emerged victorious with 15 overs to spare.
This is the first year the national club competition has been sponsored by Kingfisher Beer, who kindly reward the winners with £5,000 and the runners-up £2,000.
