Big Ben chimes to oust Himley
This season’s Cockspur Club Twenty20 is nearing the national stages as each of the ECB Premier Leagues complete their qualifying competitions.
This weekend two more clubs claimed their place in the last 25. In the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League final league leaders Knowle & Dorridge recorded a comfortable eight-wicket victory over Himley.
Having lost the toss, Himley were invited to bat first on a lively pitch and lost early wickets. Ben Coley struck three times in his first three overs before Stuart Wedge (39) and Greg Wright (31) staged a recovery.
Coley then returned for his fourth over to finish with the outstanding figures of 5-14.
The pitch eased through the afternoon and an unbeaten third wicket stand between David Hemp (46*) and Attiq Chishti (44*) saw the Warwickshire outfit into the next stage with over four overs remaining.
Knowle & Dorridge will host the winners of the North Staffordshire & South Cheshire and Northamptonshire County Premier League competitions at the West Midlands Area Final on Sunday August 30.
This season more than 550 clubs took part in 25 Premier League competitions to qualify for the national stages.
Cuckney (Nottinghamshire) and Knowle & Dorridge (Birmingham & District) join Mochdre (North Wales), Bromley (Kent), Moddershall (North Staffs & South Cheshire), Messingham (Lincolnshire), Kibworth (Leicestershire), Ockbrook & Borrowash (Derbyshire) and Chester-le-Street (North East) in the race to Finals Day once again televised live on Sky Sports.
This Sunday there are six more league finals and a further seven the following weekend leading up to a huge weekend of Cockspur Club Twenty20 cricket as all eight area finals will be staged during the August Bank Holiday weekend.
