Ealing bound for Barbados
Ealing won the Barbados Cockspur Club t20 as they dominated the final with a 10-wicket victory over Chester-le-Street at Chelmsford.
Ealing kicked off the Barbados Cockspur Club t20 finals day with a convincing seven-wicket win against Cornish side St Just to book their place in the final.
The second semi-final was a closer contest with Hyde looking comfortable as they set about chasing down the 103-run target set by Chester-le-Street. But it was not to be as the north-east bowlers regained control with five wickets for 10 runs to claim a five-run victory.
Ealing’s David Holt inserted Chester-le-Street in the final and his team restricted the Durham side to 120 for four with wickets shared among the west London outfit.
Loughborough student Oliver Wilkin and ex-Middlesex spinner Chris Peploe, who made 63 and 56 respectively, then set about knocking off the runs with ease, securing the prize of an all-inclusive pre-season trip to Barbados courtesy of the Barbados Tourism Authority.
Holt said: “It means the world to win the competition; we’ve put in so much effort.
“We’ve won the league again this year so it’s absolutely tremendous to take this title as well. I’m over the moon.
“The fashion in which we have won the game today is amazing. The boys can’t wait to get over to Barbados in the spring.
“To win the game in that style was incredible. All credit to the guys at the top of the order they batted brilliantly.
“Chris Peploe is our best player but we have a team of excellent club cricketers who are really close and that really makes a difference when we are out there.
“Hopefully we’ve really put Ealing Cricket Club on the map tonight.”
