Finchley fly high
Finchley booked their place in the Cockspur Club Twenty20 national stages as they saw off Teddington in the Middlesex League Final.
A packed Winchmore Hill ground saw the hosts' title hopes disappear before lunch as they were beaten by Finchley in the first semi-final. The home crowd was given hope as Finchley faltered to 40 for four in reply to WHCCs 154 for seven, but no more wickets were lost in the chase as Finchley eased home with an over to spare.
In the second semi-final, 2008 national finalists Stanmore were swept aside by a confident looking Teddington who smashed their spin-based attack to all parts for 183. Stanmore attacked from the off but it didn’t pay off as they were bowled out for 130.
It was a different story in the final however. Finchley posted a gettable looking 143, and given TCCs display in their semi their place at the London Finals at Billericay looked likely.
But they must have had nerve sandwiches for lunch as tentative batsmen were caught in the ring and were eventually bowled out 12 short of the mark as Finchley triumphed.
Finchley (154-4) beat Winchmore Hill (154-7) by 6 wickets
Teddington (183-5) beat Stanmore (130 all out) by 53 runs
Finchley (143-8) beat Teddington (131 all out) by 12 runs.
In other League Finals over the weekend both Bridgwater and North Devon made the most of home advantage to win through from WEPL and the Devon Prem respectively, while Chingford and Reigate Priory booked the last two places at the London Area Finals Day to take place on Bank Holiday Monday at Billericay CC.
