Countesthorpe pull off last ball thriller

ECB U13 National Club Championship

Leicestershire youth side Countesthorpe were heroic winners of the North Midlands Regional Finals in the MCC Spirit of Cricket U-13 Clubs Championship after a nerve-jangler of a final.

At the start of the last over, Countesthorpe were 75-9 needing six runs to win. They reached their target with one ball to spare after their opponents served up a wide and a no-ball in the final over.

Two spells of rain proved distracting for the boys. The first one lasted 20 minutes while lunch was being taken and the second lasted five minutes during the first innings of the finals.

But in each case, thanks to Head Groundsman Steve Harris and his team, the covers were on before the rain could affect the pitches.

After they had passed through the final innings were played in glorious sunshine and blue skies with winners Countesthorpe now progressing to the National Finals to compete against seven other Regional Finallists over five days in a residential cricket festival at Oakham School in Rutland.
