MCC Spirit of Cricket Under 13 National Club Championship - Day One

Only one side remained undefeated after the first day of the 2005 festival, played once again under sunny skies at Oakham School.

It was Newport, the Welsh Champions, who took the initiative and won both their matches - against Radcliffe on Trent and Bath respectively - in fine style showing a strong batting line up and a useful bowling attack.

At the other end of the spectrum only one side failed to register a win - South Northumberland looked the most nervous on a first day which saw promise from all sides involved.

Good cricket was played by all, in good spirit, and with two and a half days of cricket remaining any side out there could snatch the title.
