Newport secure victory in MCC U13s
Newport CC of Wales are the Under 13 National Club Champions. The Welsh side remained undefeated in the MCC Spirit of Cricket Under 13 National Club Championship, after a win on the last morning against a defiant Harrow St Mary's.
Though Harrow only scored 63 for eight in response to the dominant Newport's 113 for one, the Middlesex side was the only team during the week not to be bowled out by the fearsome Newport attack.
High praise must be given to Newport though, who were the deserving winners in an excellent week of cricket. All eight teams had at least one victory, and the cricket was played in fine spirit throughout. South Northumberland won the award for the side who played in the best spirit.
In other last day results, Radcliffe on Trent beat South Northumberland, Doncaster Town beat Porthill Park, and Bath cruised to a 10-wicket victory over Ilford.
Ann Barrington, widow of Ken Barrington, presented the Ken Barrington Cup to the Newport captain at the conclusion of the tournament. This year was the 25th year that Ann has presented the Cup to the U13 winner.
