Oakham finals line-up complete

ECB U13 National Club Championship

The six clubs who have won their way through to the Oakham Finals Festival out of an initial entry of over 1,800 teams in the ECB U13 National Club Championship have now been confirmed.

Newport, the 2005 Champions from South Wales, are making a return to the Finals Festival which starts on Wednesday August 11. Ealing will be hoping to make it three winners from Middlesex in the last five years after the successes of Harrow St Mary's (2006) and North Middlesex (2008).

Both these clubs are expected to mount strong challenges for the national title but will meet stern opposition from the other finalists. Old Elizabethans (Worcestershire) were extremely impressive in disposing of the challenge from Wolverhampton in the Regional Final and are looking forward to their first National Final in any age group. Wolverhampton have a record second to none in reaching the National Finals so any side beating them must be reckoned with.

The Yorkshire challenge this time around comes from Old Leodiensians (Leeds GS Old Boys) who appeared at Oakham in the 1996 Finals Festival. Spencer (Surrey) from Wandsworth in South London have a team playing at a National Final for the second season running as their 1st XI reached the National Club Championship Final at Derby last season, losing out to Chester-le-Street.

Completing the line-up are Lindum CC from Lincoln - who have their ground in the shadow of Lincoln Cathedral. The club are the first team from Lincolnshire to reach the National Finals and are looking forward to an unforgettable experience.

The Oakham Finals Festival is played as a round-robin so there are five rounds of matches - two on Wednesday and Thursday, and the final round on the Friday morning.

Ann Barrington, Ken Barrington's widow, and Derek Underwood will present the trophy and medals at the end of play at lunchtime on Friday.
