St Cross Symondians from Hampshire won the ECB Under-13 National Club Championship in dramatic style at Oakham School.

Around 1,700 sides started the competition with six teams reaching the national finals which were held over three days last week.

Top on points after two days, St Cross Symondians went into their final match with Wanstead and Snaresbrook knowing a win would see them crowned champions.

However, defeat would leave the door open for the winners of the Caythorpe-Nantwich match to steal top spot.

St Cross Symondians made life tough for themselves when they lost early wickets in pursuit of 140 from 20 overs but some powerful hitting kept them in the hunt.

In a tension filled conclusion where three were needed from the final delivery, Raff Tellett launched a drive straight past the bowler for four to spark a pitch invasion from his joyous team-mates.

"Whatever their individual cricketing journeys are from now, they will always remember this day," said manager Ian Bussey-Jones.
