Minor Counties MCCA promo

Kadeer Ali

Kadeer Ali compiled a fine 182 in Staffordshire's first innings as they cruised to a nine-wicket victory over Buckinghamshire at High Wycombe

Kadeer Ali and Nav Poonia struck 182 and 134 respectively as Staffordshire re-ignited their MCCA Championship challenge with a nine-wicket win over Eastern Division rivals Buckinghamshire in batsman-friendly conditions at High Wycombe.

Despite losing opener Aaron Jeavons to the second ball of the game, Staffs posted a challenging total of 450 for six from 90 overs after winning the toss, with Kadeer and Poonia sharing 195 for the second wicket.

Poonia struck nine sixes and 10 fours in his 161-ball stay at the crease, while Kadeer brought up his century and 150 with maximums before being caught on the midwicket boundary.

Buckinghamshire reached stumps on 47 without loss, but were then dismissed for 299 on the second day, two short of their follow-on target.

David Cranfield-Thompson was left unbeaten on 79, while Greg Willott claimed 5-78 for the visitors.

Left-arm spinner Paul Byrne struck three times before the close on the second day to reduce Buckinghamshire to 161 for five in their second innings and they were duly bowled out for 288 on the following day, with Byrne claiming a further three scalps to finish with 6-62.

Set 138 to win, Staffs needed just 28.4 of the available 68 overs to complete a second win of the campaign.

Jeavons avoided a pair and went on to finish unbeaten on 74, while Kadeer contributed 44 to an opening stand of 101.

Atiq Chishti rounded things off with an impressive six over midwicket, lifting Staffs to third in the Eastern Division table.
