Berkshire crush Herefordshire
Herefordshire's first home match of the season resulted in a heavy defeat, by an innings and five runs, before tea on the second day of against Berkshire.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Herefordshire’s openers Harshad Patel and David Exall made a solid start and put on 40 before Patel was bowled.
Steve Adshead was next out for 21, bringing captain Chris Boroughs to the crease to join Exall and they enjoyed a 90-run partnership in 20 overs before he became the first of Chris Peploe's five wickets.
Exall’s eventual dismissal for a half-century signalled something of a collapse as the hosts were bowled out for 215 within 66 overs with the spin pairing of Carl Crowe and Peploe being a major factor.
In reply Berkshire raced to 253 for two at the close of play with Michael Roberts scoring 78 in support of David Barnes’s unbeaten century.
Berkshire started the second day in similar form, reaching 401 for seven in their allotted 90 overs.
Trailing by 186, Herefordshire lost nine wickets during the afternoon session with only Adshead on 61 making a telling contribution as the wickets were again shared by Crowe and Peploe to secure 24 points for Berkshire, while the hosts picked up four.
