Parsons and Beaven see off Wiltshire
Tom Parsons and Luke Beaven took three wickets apiece as Western Division leaders Berkshire comfortably beat Wiltshire by 130 runs in their Minor Counties Championship match at Falkland Cricket Club.
Requiring 455 to win, Wiltshire started well as Ed Kilbee and Jayden Levitt shared an opening partnership of 62 but lost wickets at regular intervals and, when Levitt was dismissed for 61, the visitors were bowled out for 324 with Beaven claiming 3-45 and Parsons taking 3-61.
Berkshire won the toss and elected to bat, starting well with an opening stand of 79 between Michael Roberts, who made 53, and David Barnes before Wiltshire struck back with three quick wickets.
Craig Crowe, Steven Naylor and Bjorn Mordt all hit half-centuries as Berkshire posted 370 for eight with Tahir Afridi claiming 5-90 off 31 overs.
In reply, Wiltshire slipped to 52 for five before Levitt struck an unbeaten 115 to propel Wiltshire to 211, still 159 adrift.
Berkshire decided against enforcing the follow-on and, after losing an early wicket, Jono McLean made an unbeaten 139 as the hosts declared on 295 for three to set Wiltshire a mammoth victory total.
Despite contributions from Joe Breet, Henry Langford and Owen Alsop, Wiltshire fell short with impressive bowling from Parsons and Beaven sealing Berkshire’s third successive win.
