Hunkin and Hughes rescue Cornwall
Christopher Hunkin and Thomas Hughes’ century stand for the seventh wicket aided Cornwall’s respectable 257 all out on the first day of four in the Minor Counties Championship final with Buckinghamshire at Truro.
Hunkin and Hughes joined forces with the hosts in trouble at 130 for six after being put in. However, they steadily added 110 until the former was caught and bowled by Shaftab Khalid for 77.
Khalid trapped Hughes lbw for 47 in his next over and the remaining batsmen offered little resistance as Simon Stanway struck twice for magnificent figures of 4-73 from 35 overs.
Faisal Ali had cheaply removed Cornwall’s openers in consecutive overs and Stanway followed up with two more wickets. Neil Curnow resisted with 41 before being bowled by Khalid, who took 3-77. Rain prevented more than 90 overs being played.
